Solution:

We have the information as under;

Passed in English = 70%

Passed in Mathematics = 65%

Failed in Both Subjects = 27%

Pass percentage =?

We arrange data as under;

Subject

Passed

Failed

English

70

30

Mathematics

65

35

Both

27

Total Failure=Fail In English+Fail In Maths-Fail In Both

Total Failure=30+35-27=38%

So pass percentage will be calculated by subtracting total fail candidates %age from 100

i-e

Total Pass %age=100 - Total fail percentage= 100-38=62%

So, the pass percentage is 62%
