Solution:

Science = 65.8%

Civics = 59.2%

Total candidates = 2000

Number of candidates taking both subjects=?

We use:

Science%+Civics%-Both%=total

i-e

59.2%+65.8%-Both%=100%

\Rightarrow Both%=100%-59.2%-65.8%

\Rightarrow Both%=25%

i-e 25 % 0f total candidates (2000) took both subjects. Now we can calculate 25% of 2000 as under;

25% Of 2000 = \frac{25}{100}\times 2000

25% Of 2000 = 800

so, out of 2000 candidates 800 were those who took both the subjects
