Question 25: A sum of money shall be allocated to a,b,c, and d in a ration of 5:2:4:3. If c receives more than 1000 Rs than d, What will be the share of b ?

Solution;

Let Total Amount = z

Sum Of Ratios=5+2+4+3=14

Using share formula;

\Rightarrow D's Share= \frac{D's Ratio}{Sum Of Ratio}\times Total Amount

\Rightarrow D's Share= \frac{3}{14}\times z

\Rightarrow z= \frac{14}{3}\times D's Share----(1)

Now C gets Rs 1000 more than D;

\Rightarrow C's Share=1000+D's Share

But C's Share=\frac{C's Ratio}{Sum Of Ratios}\times Total amount

\Rightarrow 1000+D's Share=\frac{C's Ratio}{Sum Of Ratios}\times Total amount

\Rightarrow 1000+D's Share=\frac{4}{14}\times z

Put value of  z from eq(1)

\Rightarrow 1000+D's Share=\frac{4}{14}\times \frac{14}{3}\times D's Share;

\Rightarrow 1000+D's Share=\frac{4}{3}\times D's Share

\Rightarrow 3000+3D's Share=4 D's Share

\Rightarrow D's Share=3000

So,

\Rightarrow C's Share=1000+3000=4000

 

Question 26: In 9 seconds, a train running at speed of 60 km/hr crosses a pole. Waht is the train’s length?

a. 110 m                     b. 170 m                              c. 150 m

Solution:

The train will completely cross the pole after traveling distance equal to its length;

Using distance formula;

S=Vt----(1)

But here

V= 60 \frac{km}{hr}

V= 60\times \frac{1000m}{3600s}

V= 16.6 \times \frac{m}{s}

and

t=9s

Putting these values in eq (1) above;

S=16.6 \frac{m}{s}\times 9s

S=149.4 s

So, the length of the train is 149.4 meters or approximately 150 meters
