Basic Math MCQ 5 (One number percent greater than percent of other number)
MCQ5: 40% of a number is more than 20% of 650 by 190. Find the number?
a) 600 b) 700 c) 800 d) 900
Solution:
Let the number is ‘x’
40% of ‘x’ \( =\frac{40}{100}\times x \)
Now
20 % 0f 650 \( =\frac{20}{100} \times 650 = 130 \)
Now by given condition 40% of ‘x’ is greater than 20% of 650 by 190 i-e we will have to add 190 in 20% of 650 to make it equal to 40% of ‘x’
Mathematically
40% of ‘x’ = 20% of 650 + 190
or
\[ \frac{40}{100}\times x=130+190 \]
hence ,\[ \frac{40}{100}\times x=320 \]
so, \[ x= \frac{320\times100}{40} \]
\[ x=800 \]
So number is 800 — the option c is correct
