Basic Math MCQ1 (A number subtracted from a percentage of other number, whats the number?)
MCQ1. 40 is subtracted from 60% of a number, the result is 50. Find the number?
a) 150 b) 110 c) 140 d) 130
Solution:
Let the number is ‘x’ – then,
60 percent of the number \( = \frac{60}{100}\times x \)
if 40 is subtracted from 60% of the number ‘x’ – then by given condition it is equal to 50
i-e
\[ \frac{60}{100}\times x – 40=50 \]
This gives;
\[ \frac{60}{100}x=50+40=90 \]
\[ x= \frac{100\times90}{60} \]
\[ x= 150 \]
So the number is 150 – so option a is correct!
