# Area Calculation MCQ 7: A rectangular courtyard 3.78 m long and 5.25 m broad is to be paved exactly with square tiles all of the same size . Find the size of the largest tile also find the number of tiles

Solution:

We convert dimensions into centimeters as

3.78 m =378 cm = 2 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 7

5.25 m =525 cm = 5 × 5 × 3 × 7

Here common factors are 3 and 7

So, least common multiple (LCM) is  = 3 × 7 = 21

i-e 21cm is the biggest size tile’s one side, and since tiles are squares in shape same will be the other side of the biggest size tiles !

To find as how many tiles of 21 square meter will be required – we first calculate area of the courtyard and then divide it by area of one tile;

i-e

$Number Of Tiles = \frac{378\times 525}{21}=450$

So 450 tiles of 21 cm sides of a square shape will be required — option  c  is correct !
